Ultimate Offer Specially Delivered to You FREE Books
Imagination Library was started by a well-known country superstar, Dolly Parton, who is an avid reader. Dolly started the Imagination Library as a tribute to her father, “I know in my heart his inability to read probably kept him from fulfilling all of his dreams.”
Dolly herself loves reading. She wanted to provide books to all preschool-aged children. This age is a pivotal point in developing the foundation of a love for reading and development of language more broadly. The idea of a freshly wrapped special delivery, every month, helps kids look forward to receiving the gift of a book and get excited with the anticipation of what adventure will be unwrapped.
My boys love going to the mailbox and discovering their FREE books! Click here, to sign up. It’s super easy! Themes and concepts of books mailed out are to create inspiration and imagination with regard to diversity of people, their roles, culture, and environment; promotion of self-esteem and confidence, appreciation of art and aesthetics.
Leap into Books Parent Newsletter
READ: R = Repeat the Book, E = Engage and Enjoy, A = Ask Questions, D = Do More
Along with each wrapped book delivered, is a parent newsletter included. These newsletters are fantastic. They always give different ideas on how to read with your baby, toddler, or preschooler as well as educational ideas and fun for the kids such as color by number or letter, number or letter tracing, or cut and create a character from the book. A food craft is often included such as an easy DIY healthy snack or DIY birdfeeder.
Each newsletter includes a read-to-me library book guide that parents can easily follow. This guide covers vocabulary from the book, how to discuss and teach the vocabulary, how to engage and ask questions. The questions that could be asked and topics to discuss in the context of the book are written out for parents assisting the child in reading comprehension and reflection. These are two key elements in helping children fall in love with books.
Imagination Library Expands Worldwide
The following countries now offer the Imagination Library. If you live in this country and want to sign up for the free books, click on your country to go directly to that site. I also love that in the UK and Canada, the program is trying to provide book selections that have popular characters and well-loved authors specific for that country such as Peppa Pig books and well-known author/illustrator Lynley Dodd for the UK.
* United Kingdom:
The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has helped in the conversion of certain books to braille and audiobooks for children who are blind or partially sighted.
Reports have shown “Towns such as Doomadgee in remote portions of Queensland are seeing marked improvements in school readiness among children who have received Imagination Library books.” This program is available in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia.
Program coverage in Canada is available in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Yukon Territories.
* United States:
Not only did I sign my boys up for the Imagination Library in Texas, but I signed up my niece and nephew in North Carolina. Since we receive two of the same books every month, my boys keep one and then we gift the other to a Little Free Library.
As Dolly Parton says, “You can never get enough books into the hands of children.”
