A Beautiful Rainy Day

Woke up in a great mood today. I love to be inside, on a soft, clear, peaceful, rainy day, just hanging out with my son. I felt this morning’s chapter read from Karol Ladd’s book, Bright Ideas for Busy Moms: 7 Positive Strategies for Raising Great Kids, over a warm cup of tea, was perfect for such a rainy day.

The chapter was about discovering your child’s strengths. God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. Romans 12:6 It’s simple enough, starting out by seeking God’s help through prayer. So my son and I said our morning prayer: for God to open mama’s eyes to the gifts He has given my son.

Then we were to seize opportunities and spend time together. And there you have it! A rainy day, giving me the opportunity to stay inside for a little one-on-one time observing his interests, desires, listening to his unique voice and what talents God has blessed him with. I’m not going to clean the house, talk on the phone, cook anything up or any other household distractions. I’m just going to spend the whole day with one-on-one time with my son. Like the book says, it is also a great opportunity to spend the day just filling my son with encouragement, affirmation and appreciation. You never know when a moment and a few sincere words can have an impact on a life.
