Our family was thrilled to receive a Luci Light. We’ve wasted so many flashlights and batteries but now we are going eco-friendly thanks to Luci Lights and Direct Energy. Luci light is an inflatable rechargeable solar light. When deflated, it can fit into the pocket of one’s coat or backpack. It’s a little light that travels with you whether backpacking or camping or it can simply stay homebound for bedtime nightlights or backyard parties. This review is 100% WiseMommies’ opinion written on this convenient bright little fun light sponsored on behalf of Direct Energy.
Luci Light:
How beautiful to use our limitless source of light, from the sun, brightly gifted to every living person on Earth. My son said, “so it’s like holding power straight from the sun.” It really is special to hold Luci, a hand-held device that shines from power sourced from the sun. Even as a grown adult, I find it instinctively beautiful.
What Luci Lights Can Do for Developing Countries:
There are at least 1.5 billion people living without electricity. Lack of electricity/light and poverty are closely linked. Many people in developing countries use kerosene lamps which are toxic, common sources of home fires, expensive, and often bought on the black market. Luci lights can be used instead of kerosene lamps to help adults continue working to generate more financial stability, help light hospitals & clinics, and allow children the ability to read or do school work under safer and more optimal lighting conditions. Luci is renewable tech created initially for these populations in hopes of providing a literally brighter future.

7 Ways My Family Has Recently Used Our Luci Light:
#1 Bedtime nightlight is our family’s first favorite use of the Luci Light:
We feel great being an eco-friendly family, and Luci Lights can save my family a lot of money simply switching to solar power light vs battery powered lights.
#2 Forts forts forts galore!
This is the common theme at our house full of boys. Again, I can’t tell you how many batteries and flashlights we’ve gone through. My boys are really rough on their flashlights and they put Luci to the test. I’m happy to say that Luci did not break and it’s a hit in their forts.
- There is a red to white SOS feature on the Luci Light. The picture on the right: My boys pretended that a snake got into the tent and bit one of them so they turned on the SOS feature.
- Luci light is so light It’s practically weightless, and being inflatable/collapsible, it’s easily portable in every backpack including the kids.
#3 Camping, hiking, backpacking:
We love to camp and backpack whether in America or Europe. I don’t have a picture of me using it backpacking across Europe some 10 yrs ago because Luci didn’t exist then. If it had, it would have been the perfect light for me to have used when sleeping in hostels and trains, getting lost in countries unknown, at night time.
#4 Power outage:
We often lose electricity during storms. Luci Light to the rescue. It is part of our emergency kit, along with things like water bottles, granola bars; here in Texas, never know when a tornado will knock down a power line or flood cause some unforeseen need for a flashlight. You only need to charge it up via sunlight every few months to make sure it’s charged for when you need it.
#5 A simple lesson in green living and being eco-friendly:
As a family, we are working hard to recycle and be eco-friendly, to set that mindset. It also helps foster the scientific curiosity in my children. My son has had hundreds of questions about the Luci Light. He has wanted to experiment with putting the light in different places in the house to see how it charges, and if it charges on cloudy days. He currently wants to take it to school for show and tell.
#6 Bath time fun, and it’s waterproof so that’s ok if it falls into the tub.
#7 Extra general light for a random event or need:
Car rides. When it’s dark and raining outside, but my boys want to look at a book or color in the car or just have a little extra reassuring comfort, a Luci Light works perfectly. Especially since the light shines all over and not just in one direction like a flashlight; they don’t have to hold the Luci Light and get the benefits of more light.
- Also, blogging at night while everyone else sleeps.
