Motherhood: When one of my good friends first became a mother, she told me, “motherhood will show you and your husband just how selfish you are or have been as human beings.” I started to think about this especially after having my child. It is true that once you become a mother, your role changes and your focus changes more toward others. Mothers sacrifice so much for their children. However, it is such a wonderful feeling to give, do, and love your child giving completely of yourself and kicking all selfishness to the side.
A mother’s actions, words, moods and personalities will be imitated by her children. This is a lot of responsibility resting on the shoulders of mom. Most children will perceive the world through their parents, especially their mother. Mom is often the glue of the family, the nurturer, supporter, cheerlearder, coach, and chicken noodle soup. Through the mother, children also learn the meaning of unconditional.
Moms see the best qualities in their children, giving support and constructive criticism that builds up and encourages. Mothers know their children’s weaknesses but always see the potential and are ready to offer guidance. Moms are the first to congratulate when their child succeeds and teach them the best ways “to get up” when they fall. Motherhood is an experience like nothing else.
For all mothers out there, all the different types of mothers, lets celebrate mother’s day.
Take the day, and opportunity, to at least acknowledge your mother’s efforts, show gratitude, and how much you care.
I love how Jeff Elligener, blogger for The Cup of Salvation uses scripture and writes the following: “Think about the gift of life that a mother gives to us, from God. Without her, we cannot become the expression of His image here on Earth. And she risks all to give us the opportunity,to breathe, and to live, as Eve herself did. As she is the mother of all life on Earth, so too is our own mother the origin of our individual life. In fact, we honor God Himself when we love and honor our own mothers. On this special day, may we thank God for the mothers who have molded our hearts. As we honor them, we fulfill the truth of”, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28 KJV
