I really love Halloween. From childhood to adulthood, I’m a sucker for trick or treating, dressing up and celebrating. My brother and I often try to coordinate outfits together in some manner. We just love to “Boo in Halloween Family Costumes.”
Well, this year, I really wanted something different so I pulled out my creative yet frugal hat for coordinating a family costume.
I had the clever idea of incorporating and transforming our family’s Bavarian Traditional outfits into the BEST Family Halloween dress ever.
We went as a family of German Garden Gnomes, and just when I thought the boys couldn’t be cuter in their lederhosen. All I had to do was dress us up in our family German Tracht(lederhosen/dirndls) and then add a red pointed hat and white beard; handmade.
Would you have guessed German Garden Gnomes? Some did not, but most did. When we were at a school carnival for my older son, most of his friends either stared at him in wonder or they assumed he was an elf. Guess Elf on the Shelf’s popularity has squelched gnomes.

This year, we also partook in the Teal Pumpkin Project, and met up with other families in our neighborhood for a fun get together an hour before trick or treating.

And here we see the other WiseMommies’s family as a Superhero Family.

We also enjoyed the company of some friends from Venezuela, Mexico and Germany along for Trick or Treating: A first for both families! What an honor to show them how we trick or treat here in Dallas.
Did you celebrate Halloween? If you did, how so and or what did you dress up as? Have you ever coordinated an outfit for Halloween?
