Soccer quotes and giving thanks to mentors

This summer, my son had a blast from swimming, popsicles and playdates, to swim lessons, reading and soccer camp.

One task that I always try to undertake, is to give a little thanks to every coach, mentor, or teacher that my son has. As a former teacher, I know what an impact those words of thanks or small tokens of thanks can mean.

Last week, my son finished soccer camp. With my husband being German and a die hard FC Bayern fan, I laughed at his surprise when I told him that I was signing our son up for an English, UK Elite, camp.Turns out, the camp was above all my expectations. Even with sitting outside, with my twins, in the sun and 95+ heat, getting ant bites and trying to breastfeed the twins, we actually beyond enjoyed the camp. The coach was amazing!!!

From showers to mentors to teachers and friends, I try to always take the time to write letters and notes. I feel that this show of appreciation is being lost in society and becoming a manner of the past. I would love to encourage others to take the time to write words of thanks to those who touch your life and especially those working with, teaching, gifting, and mentoring your children.

At the end of soccer camp, we made a special card for the coach;

see a little below for what we wrote:picture above: my son with his coach

Being my first soccer coach, thank for making my introduction into the sport such a fun and memorable one. You are one talented coach to be successful in keeping my attention and engaged for even more than an hour. After practice, I love to count, while shifting from foot to foot on my soccer ball, throughout the day, and ask my mom, repeatedly, an annoying amount of time, when I go again to soccer camp. I also talk about how I make the ball go fast and then do little kicks and go slow. I like that! soccer 1

I added a note as well, note from mom such as;

Nothing makes a mom happier than to see her child enjoy life, especially through a sport or activity where a great mentor and role model has helped to make that happen!

Then some of my favorite soccer quotes:

“Most of us are in this more than just for playing soccer. We’re in it for the bigger goal, to move it along for the next generation.” Landon Donovan

“Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I’m very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.”, Bill Shankly

“Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win.”,Gary Lineker

Ok, that last quote to the English coach was “cheeky” that’s why it rocks!!! With my son starting up soccer for a school team, this week, this is my new go to quote!
